Description
This story revolves around a young country boy named Raymond, who grew up in a small rural town in Tennessee. Ray was a patriot and had always dreamed of serving his country. In 1968 he was conscripted and joined the Marines to go and fight in Vietnam. At first, he is excited to go, but soon he experienced war horrors. He witnessed death and destruction daily and was forced to participate in brutal combats that left him emotionally scarred. As Ray’s tour of duty progressed, he began to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He struggled with flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety and found it difficult to adjust to civilian life when he returned home. Ray’s PTSD affected every aspect of his life, he had trouble sleeping and maintaining relationships. He became withdrawn and isolated, using alcohol and medical drugs to cope with his emotions and pain. Knowing God loved him was his life jacket. The story of Ray is a beautiful reminder of the sacrifices that men and women make for their country when they go to war. It is also a testament to faith strengths for those who struggle with mental health issues. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them, lest we forget.
